Bar Soap
Soap is created when oils and butters are mixed with sodium hydroxide (lye) and go through a chemical process called saponification. The end result is soap and no lye remains. Handmade soap makers carefully select their ingredients by the properties they would like their soap to have...a hard bar, conditioning, creamy, cleansing, bubbly, etc., as each ingredient provides a unique quality. Glycerin is a naturally occurring byproduct of the saponification process. Commercial companies often remove the natural glycerin from soap to sell in different commodities, which can dry the skin. In true handmade soap, the glycerin is still present, which skin loves! Give handmade soap a try!
